Point Reduction
To qualify for point reduction, you must have received the violation and points within the 18-month period before your course completion date. You can only take a defensive driving course once every 18 months for point reduction.
We report your course completion to the NYS DMV for you, saving you the extra step. Submitting your New York Driver's License (DL) or Client ID number during course registration qualifies you for free NYS DMV course completion reporting.
If for some reason you didn't provide your DL or Client ID number, you will have to report your course competition to the NYS DMV on your own. Once the NYS DMV receives a copy of your course completion, they will reduce up to four points on your driving record.
Completion Certificate
You will receive your course completion certificate in the mail within seven to 10 business days after you complete the course. If you need your certificate sooner than within seven to 10 days, you can access faster delivery options for a fee.
In the meantime, you can download an unofficial copy of your certificate. Your certificate is required for point reduction and as proof of course completion for your insurance premium discounts.
